About the Couple
Life is a series of surprises, and would not be worth taking or keeping if it were not.

Surprise and unpredictability are an unusual foundation for a strong relationship but, nevertheless, they have been the solid foundations that not just dictated our meeting but have steered our relationship on its happy course. Our meeting was unexpected, as is often the case with surprises. I went to Café Hernandez, a café near Kings Cross where I have made it my habit to buy my coffee beans. Their house blend is particularly good, and on this day I was, for no particular reason, in a hurry and in no mood for trifles. I walked through the front door of the café oblivious to my surroundings and went directly to the coffee counter at the back of the store and ordered a bag of beans. At that moment I noticed, with some annoyance, that someone was trying to talk to me. “You come here often don’t you?” the voice said. “Yes, have you seen me here before?” I replied. I was on the cusp of being annoyed but I exhaled. I asked myself why I was in such a hurry. I looked across at my interlocutor. I saw two brown eyes framed by wavy dark brown hair staring at me from across the table directly behind me. I smiled and we started to talk. That chance meeting—aided by the temporary absence of Elis’ waitress friend who had until a few minutes prior to our meeting been sitting at the table and abetted by the absence of another friend who despite an invitation didn’t turn up to meet her—was the start of a relationship that has been full of happy coincidences range from our flat to the choice of wedding dress and the very idea of marriage. We look forward to you joining us in celebrating this serendipitous union. |
